The Turn
Late September and I really should be…shooting fall colours.
The severe storms of summer are migrating south – ending a rather busy season (32 tornadoes in Ontario this summer). The autumn palette is being mixed as we speak (fire up the warm tones) and tonight we actually have our first frost warnings of fall. In keeping with how unusual this year has been, I think these temps will set a record for these parts (for earliest autumn frost). I have just finished the Fall issue of AMP magazine; titled ‘Storm Season’.
I received good news about acceptance to three fall art exhibitions. The first one is the local Creative Outlets exhibition at the Helson Gallery in Halton Hills. It will be featuring works created during the Covid19 related shut-down (so far; this year). The Summer issue of AMP magazine (‘Drive-by Shootings’) was accepted to this unique show.
I also received acceptances into the Carmichael Canadian Landscape exhibition at the Orillia Museum of Art & History (for a thunderstorm image) and the 2020 version of the RMG Exposed exhibition at the Robert McLaughlin Gallery in Oshawa will feature one of my images of an abandoned hotel, giving me two years in a row helping them raise money to fund education programs for kids who would not normally have access.
I’m not sure how many of these exhibitions will fly, given the current state of affairs vis-a-vis the pandemic numbers on the rise again. The RMG Exposed exhibit and auction has already been announced as an online version this year (the prints will still be auctioned but bidders won’t be able to examine the prints in person). It’s a good cause so hopefully things still work out during the auction and the gallery can raise some funds for kids and the arts. Hopefully, things don’t get as bad as they were in the spring/summer and the galleries can safely remain open.
I need to come up with something to shoot over the late fall and winter (that’s right, I said it…WINTER). I think it could be a quiet one with folks doing more hibernating than usual.
