New Year, new outlooks and staying busy

Welcome to 2021! Can you handle it?

The beauty in photography, or one of them for me at least, is that it provides an outlet. It also occupies the mind and can go a long way toward staying in the moment. When my wife was dealing with her cancers, I’d lean on photography as a means to occupy my mind with something other than her current situation – or a variety of worries about possible future situations. It didn’t always work but often it did. Studies have shown that a busy mind is a happier mind. And, it doesn’t necessarily mean that the mind has to be kept busy with anything fascinating or intriguing; focusing on some housework even works.

Last year was memorable for a few BIG reasons and it saw a lot of folks with more time on their hands. But what seemed stressful could also be viewed as an opportunity to get some things done. If the ‘getting things done‘ was something that held passion, even better. We could pick up our camera, go for a socially distanced walk, and busy our minds with a creative outlet. What we point the camera at is almost secondary to the process of getting out and pushing the button. It helped; back when my wife was sick and during a global pandemic in 2020.

The new year will still hold some questions around what was left off in 2020 but things look to be turning around. Busy your mind for a bit and see what happens.
