A change would do you good
Sheryl Crow is who I associate that line with. I’m sure others have said similar; ‘a change is as good as a break’ is one that gets thrown around a lot. But, because a line sounds cliche doesn’t mean there isn’t value in there. After months of socially distancing, a change might be most welcome.
That’s what I thought when my nephew said he and a couple of his buddies were coming to our area to ride a new’ish skateboard park that was built around the corner – I thought I’d use it as an opportunity to put those ‘change’ idioms* to work. The skateboard park allowed me some time to practice shooting and reminded me what unadulterated fun looks like (hey, guess what – not all kids are glued to their screens). Taking myself in a direction I haven’t often been also helps me to learn some more about shooting in general (images without a key part of the subject don’t work very well – the skateboard crucial).
I came away with some images I was happy with, I got out into the sun in a semi-social environment (we did keep the six foot rule in mind), and I had my spirits lifted when I saw young adults (my nephew and his buddies) encouraging younger kids in their efforts.
* are those lines idioms? or colloquialisms? or ???
